ITTAR

OVERVIEW:  A sheltered port comprising public and privately operated facilities. Cargoes handled include dry bulk, petroleum products, crude, metals, breakbulk, passengers and containers There is also a naval base and berthing facilities for fishing boats and leisure craft.
The port of Taranto is a Core port in the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor in the European Union's Trans-European Transport Network.
LOCATION:  On the northern shore of the Gulf of Taranto, 65 km. WSW of Brindisi and 255 km. ESE of Naples. The port is sheltered by a combination of natural features and artificial breakwaters, enclosing what is known as Mare Grande. The naval base and some facilities for leisure and fishing craft lie on the Mare Piccolo lagoon, accessed via a cut.
