OVERVIEW:  Mumbai port along with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, located to the east of Elephanta Island, is India’s main port for the west coast. A natural deep water harbour of about 400 sq.km. protected by the mainland of Konkan to the east, and Island of Mumbai to the west. The deep waters in the Harbour provide ample shelter for shipping throughout the year. The port handles primarily bulk liquids at Jawahar Dweep and Pir Pau terminals and dry cargo and containers at the other berths. Passenger vessels are handled primarily at the Ballard Pier and extension.
