OVERVIEW:  A river port comprising facilities between the mouth of the River Tyne and the City of Newcastle. Berths handle most types of cargo but specialise in handling wood pellet imports, vehicles, Ro-Ro passenger ferries, cruise vessels and offshore cargo including cable and pipes. There are also repair and construction yards specialising in work for the offshore industry.
