OVERVIEW:
Regional river port supplying raw materials to local industries and export of bulk
grain and vegetable oil. Main port area is around Puerto Nuevo.
Main cargoes handled are iron ore, steel, fuel, grain, coal and fertiliser. Other
imported cargoes include magnesium, chromium, bauxite, magnesite, steel (billets and
sheet in coils), coal and iron ore. Exported cargoes include cereals, coal residual
oil, molasses alcohol, steel (billets, sheet in coils and wire), sugar and zinc.
LOCATION:
On the left bank of the Parana River, from seaward, below Rosario, and 188 miles (via
Martin Garcia) upriver from Buenos Aires.
