OVERVIEW:
Port Sultan Qaboos ceased to operate as a commercial port as of 1 September 2014
The intention of the government is to convert the port into a cruise hub and hence,
container, breakbulk, bulk and Ro-Ro vessels have all been diverted to the northern
port of Sohar. The only cargoes that are now handled at Port Sultan Qaboos are edible
oil, grain/wheat and bitumen.
LOCATION:
In Mutrah city, 3 km. west of Muscat city, 370 km. south of the Strait of Hormuz,
entrance to the Gulf.
