OVERVIEW:
The port is closed after work was suspended and the harbour mouth was blocked by deposited
sand and silt. It is unclear whether work to reopen the port will be undertaken

DEVELOPMENTS:
The aim of the project was to create a commercial harbour, of depth 8.0 m., able to
handle vessels of 5,000 g.t. A fishing harbour was also to be created. A second stage
was planned which would increase water depth to 11.0 m. and allow vessels up to 16,000
g.t. to be handled
Before work stopped, two quays had been completed along with open and covered storage
facilities. The entrance of the harbour has been blocked by sand and sediment…
