OVERVIEW:
Major regional multipurpose port and prefecture-level city on the north shore of the
Yangtze River; includes facilities on Kaisha Island. The port handles mostly dry and
liquid bulk cargoes and some smaller scale container operations. The port is home
to a significant number of yards that undertake shipbuilding and fabrication of large
steel structures
LOCATION:
On the north bank on the lower reaches of the Chang Jiang (Yangtze River). Nantong
is approx. 51 n.m. upriver from Shanghai.
