OVERVIEW:  The main port of Equador, Guayaquil handles most types of cargo including dry and liquid bulk, containers and breakbulk cargo. Most commercial activity now takes place at Puerto Nuevo; however, facilities are still available for smaller vessels at the original port area on the Rio Guayas. A lighterage area for LPG carriers too large to proceed on the Estero Salado is also available near the river entrance.
LOCATION:  The city of Guayaquil is located 275 km. SW of Quito, on the west bank of the Rio Guayas approx. 60 n.m. from the sea. Puerto Nuevo is located to the south of the city on the Estero Salado, approx. 50 n.m. from the sea.
